To become a certified Professional Medical Coding Instructor (PMCC), you must be a certified member of the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), and have at least five years medical coding experience and attend a PMCC Instructor Approval workshop.
The PMCC instructor workshop includes presentations on various teaching skills, oral presentation and written exams.
Once approved, eight Continuing Teaching Units (CTUs) will need to be submitted each year.
Licensing requirements include:
- Be a AAPC certified member;
- Have at least five years of medical coding experience;
- Completion of PMCC license workshop; and
- Purchase of PMCC/PMCC-H license
